πŸ” Why historical GA4 data may be missing

Search Atlas retrieves GA4 reporting data live from Google Analytics when you open a report. It does not pre-aggregate or permanently store historical GA4 data in a separate warehouse.

If your report shows recent data but older periods are empty, the cause is usually a disconnected Google Analytics profile, an authorization issue, or Google Analytics data-retention limits.

πŸ”— Reconnect your Google Analytics profile

  1. Open Reports from the left sidebar.
  2. Select the relevant project or report.
  3. Check the connected Google Analytics profile and property.
  4. If the connection is expired or unavailable, reconnect or re-authorize the Google profile.
  5. Return to the report and select the required date range again.

Reconnecting restores Search Atlas access to data that is still available through the linked GA4 property. No separate data re-ingestion process is required.

πŸ“… Check GA4 data retention

Google Analytics controls how long some report and exploration data remains available. Depending on the property configuration, retention may be limited to 2 months or 14 months. Data older than the active retention period cannot be retrieved or reconstructed by Search Atlas.

For example, if your property retains a report type for 2 months, changing the Search Atlas date range to include older dates will not make that data appear.

βš™οΈ Confirm the report and date range

  • Confirm that the correct GA4 property is connected to the Search Atlas project.
  • Use a date range within the property's available retention window.
  • Check whether the selected metric or dimension, such as new users or returning users, is supported for the requested period.
  • Refresh the report after reconnecting or changing the date range.

🚫 What cannot be restored

Search Atlas cannot restore data that Google Analytics no longer provides through its retention settings or API query limits. Missing historical data cannot be reconstructed after it has expired from the GA4 property.
